NEW TALK - The Visual Language of Photography
A new talk for 2026/27 exploring the ways we can better communicate our intentions through the photographs we make.
It was in 1921, advertising executive Fred R. Barnard coined the phrase, “One picture is worth a thousand words.” In this talk Tom teaches us how to read them. Leading us on a journey through the fascinating world of visual linguistics, he provides practical advice on how to help our viewer's see the meaning in our photographs.

How to Constructively Critique Photographs
Tom added this talk to his repertoire in 2024, providing advice on how to look at photos analytically.
In this talk Tom provides a '4 element critique framework' to provide a platform on which to build a constructive critique. He also provides some practical examples and encourages group critiques on some of his own photographs!

The Power of Photography
Tom has been delivering this talk for over 10 years and it is the one the above quote refers to.
In this talk he uncovers a series of photography powers, many take for granted or don't even know about. Through his engaging analogies, plenty of pictorial examples and inspirational quotes, Tom enlightens us with a more thoughtful approach to image making.
